This surgical procedure is performed under general anaesthesia combined with a single nerve block, guided by high-resolution ultrasound to minimise pain during the post-operative period.
Subcutaneous mastectomy lasts between 2 and 3 hours. During surgery, high-resolution ultrasound guidance is used to ensure precise sculpting and minimise tissue trauma. It usually requires one night in hospital for observation.
Patients wear a post-surgical compression vest and lymphatic drains for one month. The treatment plan includes 10 days of post-operative care, combining lymphatic drainage, Indiba therapy, and ultrasound sessions.

Post-operative care is essential for a fast, safe recovery and the best aesthetic results. Here’s what to expect and how to care for your chest after surgery.
Drains and compression vest
You will leave the clinic with drains and a post-surgical compression vest, which should be worn daily for one month to reduce swelling and ensure optimal skin adaptation.
Medication
Mild discomfort and pain in the first few days is normal, easily managed with painkillers or anti-inflammatory medication.
Scars
Scars may appear red or swollen during the first few months. Your surgeon will recommend silicone gels or sheets to improve their appearance.
Sun exposure
Avoid direct sun exposure for the first six months to ensure proper healing and skin contraction. Use SPF sunscreen if necessary.
Physical activity
Gentle walking can start a few days after surgery. Intense exercise is not recommended until 4–6 weeks post-operation, and should be resumed gradually.
Follow-up appointments
Follow-up visits after the operation are key to your recovery. The team at Clínica Brasó will see you regularly to monitor your progress.

Ultrasonic subcutaneous mastectomy is a surgical technique that removes breast tissue while preserving the skin and nipple-areola complex. Instead of a scalpel or electrocautery, an ultrasonic device is used, which simultaneously cuts and coagulates, reducing thermal spread and tissue damage for more precise dissection.
As with any surgery, there are risks. The most common include bruising, seromas, infections, changes in sensation, or circulation issues. These typically resolve over time with proper care and medication.
Studies indicate that the ultrasonic technique causes less initial swelling and pain, though results may vary between patients.
