The procedure
It is a simple and rapid procedure. Most of the time the surgeon makes incisions in the natural lines of the upper eyelids, and just below the lashes on the lower ones, to remove excess fat and, sometimes, excess skin and muscle. The incisions are closed with very fine, imperceptible sutures. Blepharoplasty is performed in our operating rooms, under local anaesthesia and sedation. The procedure usually takes 1 hour.

Postoperative recovery
After the surgery an ointment is applied to the eyes to lubricate them. You should keep your head elevated for a few days after the surgery, and apply cold compresses. We will teach you how to wash your eyes, and you may be advised to use ophthalmic eye drops to keep your eyes hydrated. The stitches on the upper eyelid are removed about one week after surgery. There are usually no external stitches on the lower eyelid.
Back to normal
After the stitches are removed you can begin to resume a normal life. You should avoid strenuous activity for three weeks, such as heavy lifting or vigorous exercise.
