Mastopexy is a surgery to raise and sculpt sagging breasts. The removal of excess skin may be accompanied by the incorporation of prostheses, yielding very natural results.
The objective of this procedure is to rejuvenate the breasts after the patient has experienced sudden changes in weight, lactation, or simply the loss of elasticity in the skin and sagging breasts with the passage of time. To this end, depending on one’s anatomy and aesthetic goals, this intervention may be accompanied by breast augmentation. In this way the chest is lifted and its correct position and firmness are restored.
Type of procedure
Surgical with general anesthesia and high-resolution ultrasound-guided single nerve block to minimize postoperative pain.
A post-surgery bra is worn.
A 1:30-hours procedure.
Requires an overnight stay.
Bandages or dressings are used.
Mastopexy solves problems of firmness and sagging resulting from lost skin elasticity in the breasts (ptosis) over the passage of time, or due to breastfeeding or sudden weight shifts.
Are you the ideal candidate?
If you are a woman and are looking to recover or improve the appearance of sagging or diminished breasts, due to having been through a pregnancy, lactation, or major weight variations, you are the ideal candidate.
We always perform mastopexy procedures in our operating rooms. You will remain at the hospital the night after the surgery, leaving the facility the next day. The surgery usually lasts between 1 ½ to 2 hours, although in difficult cases it may take longer, and is performed under general anaesthesia.
Back to normal
Most of our patients who undergo breast augmentation surgery feel fine in 2 days and, depending on their regular activity patterns, are able to return to work soon. We strongly recommend not lifting objects over your head for the first 3 weeks, and that you avoid weightlifting, excessive physical contact, and any strains during the first 4 weeks.
Breast lifts yield excellent results. In most cases the results are permanent.
After surgery, and especially during the first 24-48 hours, it is normal for you to feel tired. Once you have overcome this feeling, depending on your activity levels, you can almost resume your regular routine. The stitches will be removed after 7-14 days, and during the first two weeks you may experience some pain.
Every year we successfully perform mastopexies. Patients can rely on our qualified plastic surgeons. Complications are rare and tend to be minor. The breast lift is a safe technique. However, as is the case with any surgery, there is always the possibility of complications. To minimise this risk, especially if you are a smoker, it is imperative that you carefully follow our plastic surgeons’ instructions, both before and after surgery.
